'The Swimming Lesson' is a return to the theme of being 'saved,' as it were, from my vibrant but simple life in Malaysia with my doting grandparents and being brought back to a civilised and cold, grey London by my parents, especially by a white father whom I didn't know. In this imaginary scene, I'm being taught by my father how to 'swim/live' when I already know how to. -Tai Shan Schierenberg, 2026
